What do you picture when you think of romance? Roses, wine, a heart felt love letter? How about your wedding? Imagine a venue where a waterfall pours gently into a bubbling brook, surrounded by blossoming flowers and lush green hills, where you and your partner say “I do.” If this sounds romantic to you, then Utopia is where you want to host your wedding.

Below please find the interview with Kelly, an award-winning wedding and events coordinator also the owner of Utopia @ Water Fall Gully.

 

*Tell us a bit about your wedding venue.
Nestled at the base of a spectacular 18 metre waterfall, Utopia is a truly unique and picturesque dining and event venue. Just 10km from the CBD, Utopia is housed in a beautifully preserved, century-old stone chalet which boasts the unique title of Australia’s last remaining heritage ‘tea room’, and the nation’s only restaurant set beside a natural waterfall.

Utopia is a proudly family owned and operated business, headed by Justin (a multi-award winning chef) and Kelly (an award-winning wedding and events coordinator). The chalet hosts hundreds of exquisite, boutique weddings and events each year, and is also open for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea from Wednesday to Sunday.

*What makes your business unique?

We are a family owned business, and are really passionate about providing amazing service. The fact that we are small and intimate allows us to be unique and quite different. We have just completed a major renovation that has made Utopia even more beautiful, and now allows us to seat up to 110 guests.

*What is included when a bride and groom books with you?

A full variety of Utopia packages are available on the website and there is a huge variation from basic packages up to top end. We have a large number of vendors that we are happy to work with and will be guided by the bride and grooms requests. All food and catering is provided through the Utopia restaurant but we are happy to work with any other vendors.

*What’s your favorite part of the job?

Definitely getting to know the couples. We usually spend over a year planning their wedding with them, so I love getting to know them and in many cases, they become dear friends. When their wedding comes around it is beautiful to see it all come together, it is like being there to see a wedding with friends!

* Do you target any particular niche?

We are a smaller, boutique venue and we predominantly work with people who are looking for restaurant quality food and wine. We are a restaurant and not a function centre, so we definitely cater for people who are looking for really good quality food and wine, and love our personal service.

*How do you help couples customize their weddings?

We usually hold four or five meetings with couples in the months leading up to their weddings, helping them to choose and plan everything from their colours and themes right through to their overall style and how they want to run the night. We help them to decide exactly where they want people seated, the timeline for their wedding, centrepieces, cakes, chair decorations and how they want the room to look and feel. We try to make everything truly personalised to each couple…we want to make their wedding dreams a reality!
