Adelaide Rustic Wedding venues-Al-Ru Farm

The first time I visited the Al-Ru Farm, I was amazed by this beautiful rustic wedding venue.

Al Ru-Farm is a perfect venue if you are after a rural feeling while still being close to the city of Adelaide. The venue is also very versatile, it can be customized for a feeling anywhere from countryside-retro to formal.

Below find the interview with Ruth, the owner of Al Ru-Farm. ( You can find a AL-RU- FARM WEDDING I’ve done.)

1.Tell us a bit about your wedding venue.

We’ve had Al-Ru family for 35 years and we love  having weddings here because it helps with the costs for maintaining the gardens. It’s a bit different with most of places. We actually host weddings to make money for the gardens.In fact, a couple of months ago the garden became financially independent, which is fantastic. So we spend all the money we have had from weddings back into the gardens and the venues.

The venues are a bit different from most places because they offer like a 5 act play. In act 1 you get to marry somewhere in the gardens or any of the many other places to choose from.

In Act 2, the guests normally come back onto the big lawn by the homestead for  drinks and canapés, which is lovely while your photos are being taken in the gardens.

In Act 3, you move into the barn for your reception, your cake cutting and speeches, and it is a very special and charming  atmosphere in there.

In Act 4, dancing commonly takes place in the hay shed with the beautiful  stone fireplace and the under croft.

In act Act 5, We offer a lovely bed and breakfast for couples that choose to stay over. So Al-Ru Farm is different, in contrast to many places where the whole wedding happens in one place and in just one room, we offer many choices and diverse environments, and it’s very different sort of thing.

2. Do you target any particular niche?
No , I don’t. We have a lot of people who have been married before, we have had same sex marriages, we’ve had a lot of weddings for the first timers, so we don’t have any particular niche in mind.

3. What makes your business unique?
Oh, the garden. The garden makes it unique. Because the garden from middle of August and it changes every 2 weeks. If you visit here every 2 weeks then it will be totally different. We’re now open in April and it’s all blue and the autumn colour it’s just starting so you know it’s always different. Also we have wonderful project from the gold all the time. The barn is particularly charming with the 11 beautiful antique French mirrors I had there now and I’m getting another 11, so it will be a lot of mirrors, because it’s old and the gold is old , and it has wonderful pattern and wonderful feeling about it. It makes it a totally unique space
that you can use anyway you like.

4.What’s your favourite part of the job?
I love meeting all the people and showing my place, that’s the favourite part of my job. We love sharing our gardens with weddings. We do not have to do 18th or 21th birthdays, but we really think that a wedding is a wonderful way of sharing our place, having lots of people come together, all contributing to a very happy atmosphere and I just think that’s very lovely.

5.How do you help couples customize their weddings?
Well Al-Ru is quite a unique venue because we only have one wedding at a time, so it’s very easy achieve a personal touch. Even though Well Al-Ru offers so much, it still is a lovely neutral space, where you can achieve your own special feeling.

6.What is your venue capacity?
We can have from 50 to 400 people if you choose to have the marquee on. On the lawn we can accommodate a lot of people, but then its a marquee wedding. We have fit 150 people, with ease, in the barn and there was still room for dancing. Those numbers are to sit down. If it is a cocktail party, we can easily manage 200 or 250 people indoors, if it’s outside, the number will increase greatly.

7.What is included when a bride and groom books with you?
If you are booking a wedding and a reception using the gardens for the ceremony and the photographs, it’s all included. We have packages available because we have a wonderful cater that works here and he has a fabulous team that will look after the couple on the day. Food is included, tables, chairs cutlery and crockery. We have fine bone china, Linen, all included. The waiting of the drink is also included. In summary, the per head cost included everything that you’ll need except the drinks. The cater can either put a package for you or you can bring your own drinks and we do not charge a corkage fee, but waiting is included in your per head cost.

8.Are there any other additional fees that the couple should be aware of?
If you want to book the bed and breakfast that is an extra charge. If you want us to put a big umbrella , we have a huge one of 4.2 meters, we charge for that. We also charge for the ice on a per bag basis, and that’s it.

My goodness, from the moment we called to view this amazing venue we have experienced nothing but the the best in hospitality from owners Ruth & Allan. Al-Ru Farm is the most magically gem whose ‘secret gardens’ are filled with the quaintest hide’n’seek places and natural props that are fantastic for photographs. The B&B Pavillion is absolutely gorgeous and the food provisions were more than ample! Such an earthy and refreshing venue that has such unique charm, and can accommodate to a range of dining styles. We had a harpist in the gardens, a photobooth inside the soft and inviting venue, the fire pit was lit in their inticing outdoor entertainment area, and our caterers had use of the newly installed commercial kitchen! It is truly worth viewing and to stay time and again, and we’ll certainly be doing just that! Date 8/10/2011
